WAPP: Nigeria will benefit from sub-regional electricity integration, says minister

The Minister of Energy, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, conveyed the support and goodwill of President Muhammadu Buhari to the effort of ECOWAS through the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) to ensure that countries in the sub-region have sufficient power. ‘energy.

He said Nigeria is fully committed to meeting the electricity challenges, with continued investment in expanding and upgrading the grid at home.

Engineer Abubakar D. Aliyu said so at the opening of the 33 session of the ECOWAS WAPP Ministerial Meeting in Niamey, the capital of the Republic of Niger.

He also said that Nigeria will work with the agencies involved in the WAPP project, including the Ministry of Finance and Defence, to address the challenges that are delaying the project.

The minister and his defense counterpart represented Nigeria at the foundation-laying ceremony for the Niger side of the regional project, inaugurated on Tuesday by Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum and Ghana’s President Nana Akufo Addo – who is the current President of ECOWAS – in Gondu Banda.
