UNDP-ABC and ECOWAS to Host Partnership Dialogue on West Africa Development

The UNDP Africa Borderlands Center (ABC), in collaboration with ECOWAS, will organize a partnership dialogue to deepen collaboration on development in West Africa. The dialogue, scheduled for July 4-5, will bring together participants from the ECOWAS Commission and UNDP entities, including the Regional Service Center for Africa (RSCA), the West and Center (WACA) and the Africa Borderlands Center (ABC).

Under the theme “Strengthening ECOWAS-UNDP synergy for regional integration and promoting socio-economic opportunities in the border regions of West Africa”, the dialogue will facilitate exchanges on socio-economic, security and policies in West Africa and will highlight lessons learned from ECOWAS and UNDP interventions around four thematic areas: stabilization, SALW and regional security; Cross-Border Trade/Development of Border Regions; Mediation & political and gender transitions, youth and cross-cutting commitments.

The two-day event will engage experts from UNDP and ECOWAS to enhance the collective understanding of opportunities and entry points for joint programming by ECOWAS and UNDP in the border regions of West Africa. and agree on next steps and timelines to develop a series of ECOWAS-UNDP programs. in critical areas of socio-economic development.

The event will host a series of technical sessions, presentations and interactive discussions by participants from ECOWAS and UNDP. The technical sessions will undertake in-depth discussions on opportunities for future collaboration and define practical areas of engagement and timelines for the formulation of joint programs.

“The ECOWAS-UNDP partnership dialogue will be an opportunity to share the work of the ECOWAS Commission and UNDP, with particular emphasis on the work of the UNDP African Border Center, to discuss challenges, dynamics and opportunities in border regions to enable the development of joint programming in areas such as trade, peace, social cohesion and innovation,” said Zeynu Ummer, ABC Team Leader and Technical Advisor main.

Keynote speakers will include Stan Nkwain, Director of UNDP Regional Service Center for Africa, Mohammed Yahya, UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, ECOWAS Vice President

ECOWAS Commission, Commissioners, Directors and technical staff; Ambassador, Njoya Tikum, Manager, UNDP WACA Hub, Jide Okeke, Coordinator, UNDP Regional Program for Africa; and ABC team leader Zeynu Ummer.
