Fatoumatta Saidykhan, commonly referred to as the Shea Butter Lady, is an up and coming young entrepreneur who is making waves in the country.
The 29-year-old journalist turned entrepreneur, a Wellingara resident, is now deeply in the business sector and specializes in various products mainly, shea butter products, body cream, hair cream and lotion. for children’s body.
In an interview with The Point, Miss Saidykhan revealed that she started her business two years ago, having in mind the need to engage in something useful.
“So I had a business idea and my mind clicked on shea butter. I have used shea butter on my skin and realized the benefits. So I decided to start treating it. I use natural ingredients to make it gentler to use.
The company, she added, is doing well thanks to the positive feedback it receives from its customers.
“I get more and more customers each time and they always said my products made their body smoother and healthier and helped a lot with hair growth,” she added.
While the business was booming, a friend advised her to register her business with the AG’s Chambers and when she did so successfully, that’s when she knew it was a real business.
Running a commercial brand “Yayi Uthman Beauty Solution”, the 29-year-old then started attending business trainings and trade shows, which she said gave her another advantage in marketing her products.
She lamented the challenges she currently faces, however, saying some Gambians do not appreciate their own products.
“They prefer to patronize foreign products and goods rather than those made in Africa. And packaging materials are also expensive in The Gambia. I pray to have my own shea butter business, where I will distribute my products in the market and also employ other young people. This dream can only come true when we get the support of the Gambian people, government and stakeholders ”
