Manchester United strike Borussia Dortmund deal for Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho is making a £ 73million summer transfer to Old Trafford after Manchester United reached a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the England international.

Last summer was dominated by the discussion about the talented 21-year-old swapping the Bundesliga for the Premier League, although a deal did not materialize at the time.

However, former Manchester City striker Sancho is now returning to the North West and rejoining United, with Dortmund confirming they have struck a € 85million (£ 73million) deal.

The PA news agency understands the fees will be paid in five installments, with the forward ready to sign a five-year deal with the option of an additional season.

In a statement on its official website, Dortmund said: “Jadon Sancho is on the verge of (a) moving from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United. It is today the agreement in principle of the two clubs and the player.

“Upon completion of this transfer, Manchester United will pay BVB a fixed transfer fee of € 85 million.

“The contractual details now need to be coordinated and completed.

“In addition, the formal processing of the transfer is always subject to the successful completion of all necessary medical tests and examinations, a coordination procedure with the player’s former club and proper and prompt processing in accordance with the provisions of the correspondence system. transfers from FIFA. “

Later Thursday, the news was confirmed by the giants of Old Trafford.

“Manchester United are delighted to announce that they have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho,” they said in a statement.

“The signing is subject to contractual conditions and a medical examination, which will be completed after Jadon’s involvement in the UEFA European Championship.”

Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke told a press conference that “in the end, it was (the transfer) Jadon’s wish”.

Despite Sancho’s desire to move forward, Watzke praised his attitude and professionalism, saying he had “behaved fantastically”.

He added: “We are not happy with the money, we are rather sad that it is going away.”

Sancho was part of the Manchester City academy before leaving the club to sign for Dortmund in August 2017. He made 137 appearances in all competitions for the German club, scoring 50 goals.

The deal would see Sancho, who has scored three times in 20 senior internationals, become the second most expensive Englishman behind Harry Maguire, whom United signed two years ago from Leicester for £ 80million.

The news was welcomed by Marcus Rashford, who is with Sancho on duty in England to prepare for Saturday’s Euro 2020 quarter-final against Ukraine.

The PA news agency understands United are set to confirm the signing of former academy player Tom Heaton.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper spent several loan spells away from the club before permanent stints at Bristol City, Burnley and Aston Villa.

United are also considering defensive reinforcements and have had talks over Real Madrid center-back Raphael Varane, but it remains to be seen if a deal can be reached for the France international.
