Manchester United made one of Italy’s top Euro 2020 stars a target after deciding he would fit in the Premier League, according to a report.
As always, United are looking for some big money moves this summer. They have already reached an agreement in principle to sign long-term target Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund for £ 73million. And now they seem to be in pole position to finish the £ 100million signing of Sancho’s English teammate Harry Kane.
It comes after Tottenham reportedly lowered the asking price for their star man. Instead, they asked for the nine-figure sum plus two United players.
While top-level movements take center stage, there are other areas Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to recruit for as well.
One of those positions is right-back. The United boss wants to bring in someone to compete with current top pick Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Red Devils currently have two other right-backs in their squad. However, neither are preferred as suitable options by Solskjaer.
Diego Dalot spent last year on loan at AC Milan after falling out of favor. He is linked with a move to Real Madrid from Carlo Ancelotti.
Brandon Williams, meanwhile, looks set to join Southampton on a season-long loan to save much needed playing time.
United’s main target for the job was Kieran Trippier of Atletico Madrid. The 30-year-old was born near Manchester and has supported the club his entire life.
However, reports have indicated that Atletico’s asking price is too high for Old Trafford officials to taste.
It seems they are now exploring alternatives. According to an Italian newspaper La Stampa, Going through He Napolista, one goal they have in mind is Italian right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
Di Lorenzo, 27, is said to have sparked United interest with his Euro performances. They are said to consider him “suitable” for the Premier League.
His club Napoli valued him at 20 million euros, which is not far from the price of Atletico on Trippier. However, Di Lorenzo is three years younger.
Maguire praised by ex-Liverpool midfielder
Meanwhile, Brighton and former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana have admitted he was wrong in his assessment of England United star Harry Maguire.
Maguire has proven to be one of the Three Lions’ most notable stars in recent games.
This is despite the struggle for fitness after suffering an ankle injury ending the season. Indeed, Gary Neville claimed that he was now or never to have the 28-year-old on the squad for the last match of the group stage.
Given his impact at club and international level, Lallana reflected on how he misjudged the center-back.
