Leeds will rival Everton and Southampton for Man United’s James Garner

Transfer News: Leicester City interested in Manchester United midfielder James Garner

Leicester City are the latest club to enter the race for Manchester United midfielder James Garner, according to the Mirror. Both Everton and Southampton made approaches for the defensive midfielder but were unsuccessful as such.

United are reportedly ready to sell the 21-year-old as Erik ten Hag doesn’t see him in their plans. He is valued at around £15m by the Reds. And now the Foxes are ready to enter the race for him.

Garner, a United Academy graduate, was promoted to the senior team in 2020. He was sent on loan to Watford but was recalled after six months. He was loaned out to Nottingham Forest in January 2021, where he impressed for the remaining term.

The Forest side again approached to loan him out for last season and United gladly returned the offer. The England Under-21 international has been crucial for his team as he has scored four goals and provided eight assists in 41 league games.

He also played every minute of their play-off campaign and helped them gain promotion. He was expected to have a chance after his impressive loan spell but Ten Hag doesn’t have it in his plans for this season.

Fred and Scott McTominay were criticized by fans for their continued poor performances. The Red Devils have agreed in principle to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid. He’s a major update to the current midfielder, but he might not be enough.

It would be unwise to sell such a young prospect without giving him a chance. On the contrary, it would be wise to lend it again. This would help his development, while United could monitor his progress and then decide his future.

Everton and Southampton are also interested in the United Academy product. These are teams that can offer him more playing time than he currently has under Ten Hag.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, hopes his team can improve their performance. They have lost both games and face the daunting task of facing Liverpool in their next game on Monday. Garner remained an unused substitute for both games and it remains to be seen whether or not he will feature for the Reds this season.
