Ethiopia appoints two companies to certify imported solar products – New Business Ethiopia

The Ethiopian government has appointed two international companies to certify solar products and spare parts before products are shipped to the country.

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration said it chose Bureau Veritas and Cotecna to certify products and issue a certificate for all solar products and spare parts. It is said that the two companies are selected and an agreement was signed on January 25, 2022 after winning the international tender announced recently by the ministry.

From now on, all importers of solar products and spare parts must present a quality assurance certificate from one of the two international companies – Bureau Veritas or Cotecna, according to the ministry, which quoted Mr. Eyasu Simon, Director of Import Goods -export at the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration.

He said the country will return to the exporting country all solar products and spare parts that are not certified by the two international companies. He urged all importers of solar products in Ethiopia to be aware of the new regulations.

Meanwhile, the ministry has not mentioned how it will deal with solar products and spare parts that are already being shipped to Ethiopia before the new regulations.

The reason why Ethiopia named Office Veritasand Cotecna doing the lab testing and certification is because the country does not have the capacity to do the testing and certification and takes a lot of time, according to the ministry’s justification.
