AUDA-NEPAD reviews the results of the 2nd Peer Review

The African Union Development Agency/New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) has begun a review of the results of the second peer review process in Nigeria.

AUDA-NEPAD Chief Executive Officer, Princess Gloria Akobundu who addressed journalists during a workshop on Harmonization and Finalization, Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for the Implementation of the Second National Program of Action (NPoA) in Abuja, commended the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders. which resulted in the successful second peer review of Nigeria.

She said, “We worked with all public and private sector stakeholders to conduct the country self-assessment and produce the report that was validated. Thus, the objective of the workshop is to train the people who will implement the report of the exercise.

“We need to harmonize all documents and produce a National Program of Action (NPoA) in line with the Global SDGs 2030, AU Agenda 2063 and Nigeria National Development Plan for smooth implementation in line with the best global practices”.

She said the main objective of the NPoA is to guide and mobilize the efforts of the country in implementing the changes needed to improve its state of governance and accelerate its economic development. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the important issues are addressed to enable the full achievement of the objective of the NAP framework.

“After successfully conducting the Country Self-Assessment which produced the Country Self-Assessment Report and the Country Review Report (CRR) prior to the successful Validation by the Country Review Mission (CRM ) led by the APRM Panel of Eminent Persons and the Continental Secretariat, Nigeria is currently drafting its NAP taking into account all the recommendations of the APRM Panel of Eminent Persons as well as all overriding issues.”

She urged participants to build on the achievements of the meeting as well as effectively track, monitor, evaluate and report on the implementation of the NAP for the preparation of the country progress report.

The Chairman of the APRM Governing Board, Senator Abba Ali, in his remarks, hailed Princess Akobundu’s commitment to the cause of the peer review process for the overall benefit of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba, represented by Adeosun Peter, said Nigeria is on track to implement the outcome of the peer review, at know the national action program.

He explained that the peer review mechanism was set up to achieve the pan-African vision of a prosperous and integrated peaceful Africa that seeks to count itself in global politics, and it has recorded great milestones in providing a platform for AU member states that have joined the protocol to share information, knowledge and experience as they review each other’s performance within the framework established by the institution.

He said, “As a self-monitoring mechanism in all aspects of governance, the initiative puts people at the center of the development discourse for the benefit of Africans on the continent, which is in line with the AU Agenda 2063.

“The APRM promotes best practices that will lead to sustainable economic growth, infrastructure development, political stability as well as accelerated sub-regional and continental economic integration of the continent.

Likewise, the representative of the Minister of Special and Intergovernmental Affairs, Babatunde Bernad, in his remarks, said that the government was fully committed to promoting good governance practices enshrined in the ideals and vision of NEPAD which gave birth to the APRM. .

He said that Nigeria as a whole is proud of the progress made in the APRM as a self-monitoring tool to address the governance deficit in Africa and Nigeria in line with shared values ​​in the areas of democracy and corporate political and economic governance, and socio-economic development.
