The first ASEAN Youth Dialogue is due to take place July 25-26 in Siem Reap, Cambodia, with 68 delegates from the bloc and the Republic of Korea (RoK) attending.
The ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports will jointly organize the dialogue with the support of the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund within the framework of the 9th ASEAN-Korea Border Forum. The issues to be discussed will align with the priorities of Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year and the theme “ASEAN ACT: Facing Challenges Together”.
Themed “Youth in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Opportunities and Challenges in Post-Pandemic Recovery”, the event is expected to see participants present a set of policy recommendations on how to prepare the region for the fourth industrial revolution, in this case through ASEAN cooperation with the Republic of Korea.
In Siem Reap, youth delegates will engage in face-to-face dialogue with ASEAN youth ministers and senior government officials on youth empowerment, pandemic recovery and integration regional.
Eight thematic areas shape these recommendations and dialogue, namely governance; science, technology and innovation; the future of work; infrastructure and connectivity; inclusive and sustainable growth; climate change; reducing the development gap within ASEAN; and interpersonal exchanges.
The dialogue will also include a discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing young people in the post Covid-19 4IR; a high-level round table on how young people can innovate for the development of human resources; and dialogue with ASEAN ministers and senior officials.
From July 18 to 20, ASEC organized a three-day virtual pre-departure program for the 68 participants. ANV
